PathWest—SoftLIS
1107. Hon Philip Scott to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Health:
I refer to the
Auditor General's 24th report titled PathWest's Laboratory Information System ,
which discovered major weaknesses in PathWest's management of confidentiality
and the integrity of the information in its Soft Laboratory Information System
(SoftLIS), the information system PathWest uses to record blood and tissue test
results. Can the minister confirm the following.
(1) How many test samples from PathWest were
accessed by former PathWest staff who still had access to SoftLIS after their
employment had ceased?
(2) Were the newborn bloodspot screening tests
referred to as "Guthrie cards" accessed by former PathWest staff who
still had access to SoftLIS after their employment had ceased?
(3) Have any former staff who accessed SoftLIS
after their employment had ceased been found to break the law?
(4) Have the woefully inadequate information
security and authentication practices of PathWest been investigated for any
criminal negligence or wrongdoing?
