ANIMAL WELFARE REVIEW — 2015–16
STATE BUDGET
501. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
I
refer to the funding allocated in last week's budget under ''Animal
Welfare Review'' of $1.145 million in 2016–17 , $985 000
in 2017–18, $921 000 in 2018–19 and $958 000 in 2019–20.
(1) How is this money to be spent in
each of the four years?
(2) Who will be responsible for
allocating this money?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The majority
of the funds will be spent on new ongoing positions within the department,
including new regional inspectors, a communications officer and policy
positions. These positions will support the development of a state animal
welfare strategy, commence the background work for a review of the act and
increase animal welfare compliance and inspection activities in the regions.
Consultancies regarding the inspector governance framework development and
animal welfare strategy work will also be undertaken.
(2) The
Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia will allocate and manage
the funds.
