COMMUNITY CHILD HEALTH SERVICES — CITY OF GOSNELLS
On 15 December the Premier said that our state’s vulnerable children would be the beneficiaries of the social dividend from the state’s mining boom; and that, in particular, schools will turn into one-stop parenting shops to help WA’s most vulnerable children. Yet earlier this year, the Department of Health destroyed a memorandum of understanding with the City of Gosnells council for the provision of community health services for these very vulnerable children in that community. (1) Why did the government break its promise and decide to suspend discussions on the provision of community child health services in February? (2) Will the Premier now direct the Department of Health to fulfil its obligations under the memorandum of understanding and immediately recommence negotiations with the City of Gosnells to ensure that constituents continue to receive child health services, as he promised would occur under the social dividend from the mining boom? Mr C.J. BARNETT

(1)–(2) I promised to provide better child health services at our schools in the most disadvantaged areas. The Minister for Education, the Minister for Health and the Minister for Child Protection are working with me in a project being directed through the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. That is progressing well, and we are very close to being able to go forward and formally make some announcements on it.
