What measures were taken by the developers of the local government “Community” board game, which the minister described so eloquently in her response to Hon Barry House’s question, to test the transfer of learning about local government; and can the minister indicate whether that transfer of learning is more robust than the transfer of learning about commerce, real estate values and banking by a child playing the Monopoly board game? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for his question; it is a real challenge to answer it. The PRESIDENT: Order! Perhaps if the minister provided the member with a copy of the board game, we would all be better off. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH: I do not know how much benefit children gain from learning about commercial real estate values etc. From what I have seen of the game developed by the Department of Local Government and Regional Development, I am confident that students will learn about the role of local government. I want to put on record something I forgot to put on record when I answered the previous question on this matter. I understand it is the Department of Local Government and Regional Development’s objective to ensure that the cost of producing this game will be recovered. I understand that, firstly, the department will communicate with local government authorities to ensure that public libraries have copies of the board game; and, secondly, local governments will be encouraged to purchase the board game so that they can contribute it as a prize to students as part of the usual end-of-year prize givings and contributions of local government.
