I refer to police sergeants, and ask: (a) How many sergeants were in the WA Police Force in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 year to date; (b) How many sergeant vacancies are there currently in each police district; and (c) How many officers are currently performing the role of acting sergeant?

The Western Australian Police Force advise:
(a) Sergeants as at:
30/09/2016 1 139.23
30/09/2017 1 184.90
30/09/2018 1 166.34
30/09/2019 1 190.15
2018 reflects the temporary impact of the VTSS program.
(b) Sergeants as at 24 October 2019:
Midland District 3
Mirrabooka District 3
Perth District 2
Cannington District 1
Armadale District 3
Mandurah District 3
Fremantle District 3
Joondalup District 3
Kimberley District 4
Pilbara District 0
Goldfields-Esperance District 3
Mid-West Gascoyne District 1
Great Southern District 0
South West District 2
Wheatbelt District 1
Vacancies in Police Districts are impacted daily by natural attrition, leave without pay and officers transferring in and out of positions.
(c) As at 24 October 2019, there were 256 police officers acting in Sergeant roles (all Portfolios). Acting is primarily undertaken when the usual occupant is on leave or otherwise unavailable.
