(3) For the period 1 June 2009 until 31 August 2009, what were the number of individuals charged as a result of a report of suspected child sexual abuse. What were the nature of these charges?

(1) There were 365 notifications arising from Mandatory Reports between 1 June 2009 and 31 August 2009. There were an additional 412 notifications of suspected child sexual abuse that did not come from Mandatory Reports during this period, creating a total of 777 notifications.
In relation to the 365 notifications arising from Mandatory Reports by District:
- Armadale District 24

(2) During the period 1 June to 30 August 2009, there were 330 notifications where it was determined that a child protection investigation was required where the matter related to suspected child sexual abuse.

(3) Information provided by the Western Australia Police Service (WA Police) shows that between June and August 2009, 66 offenders were apprehended and charged with 184 offences as a direct result of Mandatory Reports. The offences included sexual penetration, indecent dealing and physical assaults. In relation to this data it is important to note the Mandatory Report figures are not entirely representative of the arrests made and the charges referred by the WA Police with respect to child sexual abuse. The WA Police, specifically the Sex Crime Division, are able to provide broader statistical data if required.
(4) There were 3099 notifications received between 1 June 2009 and 31 August 2009, the primary nature of concern for these notifications were as follows:
- sexual abuse (777 notifications),
- neglect (1061 notifications),
- physical abuse (679),
- emotional abuse (442),
- psychological abuse (92)
- no suitable caregiver (26)
- primary nature of concern has not been recorded as yet (22).
