Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
320. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Minister for Health Infrastructure:
I have a
supplementary question. What action is the minister now taking given staff
reports that things keep failing because large funding amounts have not been
provided by government?
Ms Libby Mettam interjected.
Ms Sandra Brewer interjected.
The Speaker: Members! Member for Vasse and member for
Cottesloe, this is not your question. The Leader of the Opposition asked the
supplementary. The more you interject, the longer this will take. Supplementary
questions are meant to be short questions with short responses.

Firstly, for
example, last night, and I believe it may have been reported on, there was a
leak in D block and carpet was damaged—rain came through a window. It
was a relatively minor leak in an unoccupied area. The shift engineer attended
the D block issue when he received a phone call. So there is a responsive
process in place. Again—
Mr Basil Zempilas: Funding?
Mr John Carey: I will deal with the funding issue. I
do note in the debate last night—I watched it very carefully—that
every member other than the leader of the Liberals stopped referring to cuts to
maintenance funding. That is because, as we heard from the Treasurer today, the
leader of the Liberals did not compare like with like, so they ballooned their
own funding—

The Speaker: Members!
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members of the opposition! Actually, minister,
the path you are going down regarding the finances is not in the actual
supplementary question, so if you could answer the supplementary question as
opposed to the interjection. Carry on, mate.
Ms Libby Mettam interjected.
The Speaker: It is not your question.
Mr John Carey: The question I was asked was about
funding. Be very clear—
Ms Libby Mettam interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Vasse!
Mrs Jessica Stojkovski interjected.
Ms Libby Mettam interjected.
The Speaker: Minister! Member for Vasse, if you keep
carrying on that way, I am going to start calling you to order.
Mr John Carey: In 2016–17, the last year of
the Barnett government, repairs and maintenance funding across the four metro health
service providers was $69.6 million. By 2023, this had increased to $92.9 million.
In terms of repair and maintenance funding for North Metropolitan Health Service,
it was $33.2 million in 2023–24 and it increased to $38.4 million in 2024–25.
