The details of that will be
forthcoming, but the opportunities for employment are quite large. Also, the
Indigenous land use agreements signed with traditional owners in the area will
mean new Aboriginal ranger positions. Yes, there will be compliance, and that
is a matter for the Minister for Fisheries to work out. When this marine park
is introduced, there will be jobs and opportunities. Certainly, when we have
had new marine parks and national parks across
Western Australia, we have had agreements with traditional owners on the ground
to provide real opportunities for local Aboriginal communities. This is
not something to knock. Some of the young people in communities in remote parts
of Western Australia look up to the rangers and aspire to be them. Traditional
owners know this country very well and can bring a lot of skill, knowledge and
expertise, so there will be job opportunities. As I just pointed out, a whole
lot of businesses can see the advantages of a marine park in their part of the
world, and they are doing that because they know that there are economic
opportunities for their businesses. Although I cannot determine the exact number, there will be a flow-on effect to commercial
opportunities, and that is a good thing. The member should be supporting
and encouraging this because it is good for his community.
