LOCAL GOVERNMENT
(1) Local government reform is the major policy agenda for the Local Government portfolio. This agenda aims to lead to improved performance of local government, and better local government representation and services for all WA communities including the Indigenous population of WA.
(2) The Country Local Government Fund (CLGF) is the major new program in the Local Government portfolio. This program provided through the Royalties for Regions initiative of the Regional Development portfolio provides much needed infrastructure funding for country local governments. The benefits of this infrastructure expenditure will flow through to all regional communities including the indigenous population of regional Western Australia.
(3) Please refer to Answer 2. In 2008/9 $100 million is being applied to country local governments through the CLGF. Funding of the same magnitude is planned for 2009/10, 20010/11 and 20011/12.
(4) The local government reform process in progressing through a working group of stakeholders and government and is expected to recommend to Government in August 2009, a set of actions to improve the performance and sustainability of local government in Western Australia.
The CLGF distributions commenced in May with second payments planned for June. In 2009/10 the CLGF will support regional groupings of local government and assist with local government reform initiatives in regional Western Australia.

(4) The Heritage Council of Western Australia has commissioned an assessment of the former Sister Kate's Children's Home in Queens Park for possible inclusion on the State Register of Heritage Places.
NATIONAL TRUST OF AUSTRALIA (WA)
(1) Nil.
(2) The National Trust of Australia (WA) has engaged with Indigenous families by establishing tax deductible Appeals and applying in partnership for State and Commonwealth grants.
(3) Nil.
(4) The National Trust of Australia (WA) Indigenous Engagement Program has been successful in being awarded two Indigenous Heritage Program grants to undertake archaeological and anthropological research, and a further project to implement on-ground projects.
