I refer to fires on Walling Rock station on or around Saturday, 4 June 2011. (1) Did the Department of Environment and Conservation or the Fire and Emergency Services Authority issue a permit for the lighting of fires? (2) If yes to (1), what were the permit conditions? (3) Is the minister aware that the fires at one stage burned out of control and could have threatened livestock and buildings? Hon HELEN MORTON

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) The Department of Environment and Conservation did not issue a permit. It would be the responsibility of the local government authority to issue a permit to burn, if a permit was required (2) Not applicable. (3) The Department of Environment and Conservation was only advised of the fire by the Shire of Menzies on 25 August 2011.
