Smiths Beach development
229. Ms Libby Mettam to
the Minister for Planning and Lands:
I refer to the
proposed Smiths Beach development.
(1) Can the minister confirm that full design
detail and impact studies for the proposed seawall on crown land for Smiths
Beach has not been undertaken?
(2) Can the minister confirm that this would be a
requirement before any decision is made?
(3) Given that the minister was aware of this
proposal two years ago, why has this information been kept secret and left out
of the State Development Assessment Unit application documents?

(1)–(3) I make this observation. We see
the member peddling conspiracy theories about the process. The process is done
through the Western Australian Planning Commission. It is an independent body
and I note ongoing commentary by the local member that is about creating fear
and distrust in the planning system and in this process. Ultimately it will be
a decision of the WA Planning Commission. It will consider all advice provided
to it and it will make a decision accordingly.
