Insurance Legislation Amendment (Motor Vehicle Claims
Harvesting) Bill 2023
1003. Hon Tjorn Sibma to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Treasurer:
My question is from
23 October. I refer to the Treasurer's Insurance Legislation Amendment (Motor
Vehicle Claims Harvesting) Bill 2023, which was introduced in the 41st
Parliament ostensibly to tackle the scam of claims harvesting.
(1) Is it the government's policy to reintroduce
the above bill in its previous or amended format in the 42nd Parliament?
(2) What is the
government's reasoning for its policy position in respect of legislative
responses to claims harvesting?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Treasurer. This answer was prepared on 23 October.
(1)–(2) The government continues to take
advice on this and ensure Western Australians receive treatment, care and support
services through the compulsory third-party insurance scheme when they need it.
