In relation to all agencies, departments and government-trading enterprises within the Minister’s portfolio of responsibilities, I ask: (a) does the agency, department or government-trading enterprise maintain a social media presence; (b) what is the social media site or sites which the organisation regularly uses; (c) when did the organization commence using the social media site or sites; (d) what is the general nature of the organisation’s use of the social media site or sites; and (e) what is the total cost, if any, of the organisation’s presence on social media sites?

(d) Social media is used as a cost-effective tool to disseminate information to park visitors and to engage with some of our key audiences (eg parents, teachers, Festival visitors). To date, social media has provided an effective new way to build networks of like-minded people/agencies and engage in community conversation. This contributes to a sense of community ownership for Kings Park, advocacy, supports visitor management needs (eg visitor enquiries), and promotes the BGPA's underlying messages around biodiversity conservation and education.

Perth Zoo
(a) Yes.
(b) The Zoological Parks Authority regularly uses its Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+ and Foursquare accounts and Perth Zoo iPhone app. It occasionally uses Hootsuite and Twitpic to administer these social media platforms.
(c) The Zoological Parks Authority joined Facebook on 15 December 2009 and joined You Tube on 1 October 2009. Its first Twitter tweet was on 3 November 2009, its first Google+ post was on 2 July 2012 and its first Foursquare tip was posted on 12 February 2011. The Perth Zoo iPhone app went live in December 2011.
