I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. (2)-(3) I wish to assure the member that the Department for Community Development currently provides supports to unaccompanied humanitarian minors on the basis of a memorandum of understanding signed by the acting director general of the department in February 1996 but never signed by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs and this will continue until a new agreement which is acceptable to Western Australia is signed.  Following the unwillingness of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs to progress negotiations regarding a memorandum of understanding for financial reimbursement for supports to unaccompanied humanitarian minors living in the community holding temporary protection visas and permanent protection visas, the minister wrote to the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs on 3 January 2003 requesting that the Commonwealth convene negotiations early this year.  Negotiations have now recommenced and when agreement is reached, the memorandum will be signed. (4) Not applicable.
