STOCKPILING
308. Hon SOPHIA MOERMOND to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Environment:
I
refer to the establishment of the soft plastics industry task force involving
Coles, Woolworths and Aldi, in response to the collapse of the REDcycle
program.
(1) Does the task force have any
input directly from the WA government?
(2) Is the task
force positioned to identify adequate solutions for managing WA's soft
plastics, particularly in the many country towns across WA that do not have a Coles,
Woolworths or Aldi?
(3) Are soft
plastics in WA currently being stockpiled in a hazardous manner, as was
recently reported to be happening in New South Wales?

the following answer.
(1) No, the task force is an
industry-led initiative and the WA government is not directly involved.
(2) The current focus of the task force is nationwide
with consideration of broad options for collection of soft plastics.
(3) The
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is investigating potential
stockpiles of bailed soft plastics.
