❓ Hon Alison Xamon questions the Minister for Water regarding Crosslands' application for a large water allocation from the Byro sub-basin, specifically questioning the consistency with existing allocation limits and the impact of Crosslands' groundwater exploration report on the Department's understanding of water resources. The Minister confirms key details but declines to table the report.

I refer to the answer to my question on notice No. 3907 regarding Crosslands’ application for 37GL of water from the Byro sub-basin under s5c of the
Rights in Water and Irrigation Act 1914
, and I ask -
(1) Can the Minister confirm that the Byro sub-basin is part of the Talisker/Miamia groundwater sub-area?
(2) Will the Minister confirm that the current allocation limit for the Talisker/Miamia groundwater sub-area is 10GL per year?
(3) Does the Byro sub-basin cross into any other groundwater sub-areas?
(4) If yes to (3), please identify which groundwater sub-areas and their current allocation limits?
(5) Has Crosslands submitted a report on their groundwater exploration findings to the Department of Water?
(6) If yes to (5), will the Minister please table that report?
(7) If no to (6), why not?
(8) Did the results of this exploration fundamentally change the Department of Water’s understanding of the groundwater resources in the area?
(9) If no to (8), how can the Minister possibly consider granting a license so far in excess of the current allocation limits for these groundwater areas?
