I refer to the heading 'repairs, maintenance and minor works' on page 114 of the 2010–2011 Department of Education Annual Report and I ask;
(a) how much money was spent to fix damage to schools caused by graffiti, etching or vandalism in 2010–2011 and 2009–2010;
(b) for each of the amounts in (a):
(i) how much was spent in primary metropolitan schools;
(ii) how much was spent in secondary metropolitan schools;
(iii) how much was spent in primary regional schools; and
(iv) how much was spent in secondary regional schools; and
(c) which school required the most money for repairs and works caused by graffiti, etching or vandalism and how much money was required?

The Department does not breakdown damage into these categories. They are recorded as wilful damage.
(a) The Department of Education has advised that $9.6 million was spent addressing wilful damage in public schools in 2009-2010 and $6.2 million in 2010-2011.
(b) Amounts spent to fix wilful damage were as follows:
(i) Primary metropolitan schools: $3.8 million in 2009-2010 and $2.9 million in 2010?2011.
(ii) Secondary metropolitan schools: $2 million in 2009-2010 and $2 million in 2010?2011.
(iii) Primary regional schools: $3.2 million in 2009-2010 and $697 000 in 2010-2011.
(iv) Secondary regional schools: $642 000 in 2009-2010 and $606 000 in 2010-2011.
(c) The highest wilful damage costs in 2009-2010 were incurred at Wilson Park Primary School ($2.2 million primarily as a result of arson).
The highest wilful damage costs in 2010-2011 were incurred at Hamilton Senior High School ($350 000 primarily as a result of arson).
