I refer to Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), which is a treatment that is often beneficial for patients with borderline personality disorder, and ask whether there is a free treatment, course or program in DBT within the public health system in Western Australia; and
(a) if not, why not, and are there any plans to introduce free DBT in the near future;
(b) if so, how can patients access this program, and what is the approximate waiting time for patients wishing to access DBT treatment;
(c) if yes, is DBT treatment available for both male and female patients in Western Australia; and

(b) Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is included in the range of evidence based psychological therapies offered by some metropolitan public mental health services in Western Australia. Access to DBT is determined by a comprehensive mental health assessment to ensure clinical appropriateness. Waiting times for therapy range from 1 to 12 months determined by severity of clinical symptoms.
DBT is not offered as a discrete program by rural and remote public mental health services. They offer a range of evidence-based psychological therapies to treat mental health disorders, including borderline personality disorder.
