260. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
(1) Can the
Minister for Transport confirm that patronage modelling for the northern leg of
the Metro Area Express light rail estimated that there would be 49 000
boardings on a non–school holiday week day in 2031?
(2) How does
this compare with the current patronage on the Fremantle line, the Armadale
line and the Midland line?
(3) Can the
minister confirm that there would be more than 8 000 passenger trips on the
northern leg of MAX light rail in the two-hour morning peak in 2021, and that
this will rise to more than 12 000 in 2031?
(4) How many
200-seat buses will be required to meet passenger demand during the morning
half-hour peak of the peak?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) The
government has confirmed previously that over 100 000 passenger boardings per
day would be expected on the MAX light rail network by 2031.
(2) Average
October 2014 weekday total boardings by line are, respectively, 33 292, 45 471
and 33 474.
(3) Yes.
(4) The number and capacity of buses to service the morning
half-hour peak demand is being examined.
