(1) Is the Department of Conservation and Land Management responsible for maintenance of Mowen Road between Sues Road and the Vasse Highway?
(2) If not, who is responsible for this road’s maintenance?
(3) If yes, what condition is the road in at present and is it true to say that ‘it is extremely poorly maintained and a disaster waiting to happen with corrugations and potholes in excess’ as reported to me by a constituent?
(4) What funds have been expended over each of the past 3 years on maintenance of this Road and what funds are planned for expenditure over each of the next 3 years?
(5) In its current condition, is the road unsuitable for use by vehicles towing caravans and, if yes, what warning signs will be erected to warn motorists of this danger?

(2) Not applicable. (3) The present condition of the road is fair and it requires maintenance to address the effects of winter rains. It is anticipated that this will occur shortly as a consequence of timber harvesting activities, which utilise parts of Mowen Road for log haulage. (4) The Department of Conservation and Land Management has expended approximately $5000 per annum over the past three years. It is anticipated that similar amounts will be spent by the Department on this section of Mowen Road over the next three years. The Forest Products Commission has been the agency that has expended a far greater amount on the road in carrying out maintenance works associated with timber harvesting and this has been the primary mechanism for the performance of road maintenance. (5) The road would not be recommended for travel with caravans, however the decision to tow a caravan along this route remains the judgement of the vehicle operator. The Department’s District staff will carry out an assessment of the need for advisory signs. Signs will be erected where appropriate.
