Albany Regional Prison—Inspector of Custodial
Services report
463. Mr Scott Leary to
the Minister for Corrective Services:
I have a
supplementary question. The prison is not fully staffed; we are currently
running under FTE. The department has made an official response to the
Inspector of Custodial Services' report, and maybe this will assist the
minister—here is the blank page the department supplied with the
report. Will the minister direct his department to provide a proper response
immediately, or does he stand by the silence as an adequate response?

I will check on the
status of any response to the reports. The Inspector of Custodial Services does
a constant round of reports. They are appreciated. They are valuable. They
often provide opportunities for an agency to refine its processes and practices.
But that aside, I would not want any response to the Inspector of Custodial
Services' report to divert our staff and our people from their operational
response and their task. In the event that there has not been a response, I
will find out, and I am sure the department will provide it. But I suspect there
may have been, in this case, some sort of administrative error that has
resulted in the member assuming there has not been a response.
