“WA MENTAL HEALTH TOWARDS 2020: CONSULTATION PAPER”
I refer to the answer to question without notice 1008, in which the then parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Mental Health—now the Minister for Mental Health—said, in reference to the PricewaterhouseCoopers consultation paper “WA Mental Health Towards 2020” — The Mental Health Commission has received extensive high-level feedback on the consultation paper, and this is still being analysed and considered in developing the policy and plan. A summary report on this feedback will be released by the end of 2010. When will the summary report—which the then parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Mental Health undertook to release by the end of 2010—be released; and why was the report not released before the end of 2010? Hon HELEN MORTON

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The summary report is due for release in February 2011. The release of the summary report was delayed due to the extensive feedback received from public consultation, and the subsequent need for detailed analysis for inclusion into the mental health policy and plan. I add that over 11 regional forums or consultations took place, and 350 people provided input. All the input that was provided by those people has been incorporated into this analysis. The Mental Health Commission was a bit surprised, I think, about the degree of interest that people in the community have shown, and about the number of people who turned up for the forums. That degree of interest has been extended into our recent advertisement for people who wish to join the Mental Health Advisory Committee. Near on 200 people have sought to be appointed to that advisory committee. The level of interest has been somewhat more than people expected. The Mental Health Commission is doing a fantastic job in bringing all that information to bear into this feedback report.
