Hon Ken Travers questions the Barnett government about overcrowding on the Joondalup train line, seeking information on advice regarding additional trains, delivery timelines, capacity projections, and historical train orders by Liberal governments. The Minister provides a non-substantive answer, deferring to the budget process and public transport plan 2031.

TRAIN SERVICES
I refer to the article in today’s The West Australian about overcrowding on the Joondalup train line. (1) Has the Public Transport Authority ever provided any advice to the Barnett government that it should order additional trains? (2) If yes to (1), when and why was this advice not acted upon? (3) If a train were ordered today, what is the earliest date the PTA believes it could be delivered? (4) Does the Barnett government still hold the view that full capacity at the height of peak periods will not be reached on the Joondalup line until 2014; and, if not, what has changed the government’s view? (5) Has any Liberal government ever ordered any trains for Perth’s electrified train network; and, if so, how many and what percentage of the current fleet does this represent? Hon SIMON O’BRIEN

Tragically, I am not substantively the minister who can give a response to this; I can only offer a response on behalf of the minister I represent, and I do so on these terms — I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)–(5) Issues relating to rail, bus and other transport options are being considered as part of the budget process and deliberations around the public transport plan 2031. Several members interjected. The PRESIDENT : Order!
