WA
CANBERRA STRATEGY
497. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. I thank the Premier, but he
did not outline the cost of this thought bubble when he was being given the
opportunity. How much is he expecting to spend on this unit that he is setting
up?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member! Leader of the Opposition, you
know that the reason you got all those interjections is because you started with a preamble rather than a question and a lot of
members think they will do my job and advise you on that. It would be
helpful if you did not start with a preamble, then you probably will not get
the interjections. I could not understand what you said, so perhaps you would
like to directly ask the question again.
Mr R.S. LOVE : Thank you, Madam Speaker.
The Premier has failed to outline the cost of this thought
bubble. Will he do so, please?

This is not a thought bubble; it is something that we have
thought through and worked through with key advocacy organisations in Western Australia
such as the Chamber of Minerals and Energy and the Chamber of Commerce and
Industry. Does the Leader of the Opposition have a problem with us working
closely with our fellow Western Australian advocates on these things?
Dr D.J. Honey interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members! Member for Cottesloe, you have
not asked the question. Please do not interject.
Mr R.H. COOK : Member for Cottesloe, they like us more
than they like you; let me tell you that for nothing! They love us much more
than they like you!
We will work with them. There is an opportunity to cost share
on this and there are opportunities for the costs to be dispersed amongst the
advocacy groups, and we will continue to work with them to finalise those costs
going forward. But this is an intensive cost model. This is about utilising
senior public servants in Western Australia and being coordinated through the
hub. This is about making sure that we have a base in Canberra to make sure
that Western Australians' voices continue to be heard and elevated. It
does not matter whether someone comes from a local government authority, a Western
Australian charity or a high-powered advocacy group, or, indeed, whether they
are a Western Australian government minister, everyone will be welcome to use
this facility, because we know that Western Australians who stick together will
work together and get best results.
