(2) Did the Government ever consider a proposal for matching funding from mining companies of $20 million over four years; and, if so - (a) why was the proposal not included in the Premier’s announcement of the Pilbara fund; and (b) did the Government have agreement from the mining companies that they would contribute $20 million; and, if so, which companies agreed and how much was each prepared to contribute? (a)-(b) The Government announced its $20 million package for the Pilbara and has been and continues to be in discussions with the resources sector regarding its support for projects to be funded through the Pilbara fund. This positive dialogue can be contrasted with the approach by the member, who announced a funding scheme for the Pilbara that included a $25 million contribution from the mining companies without their approval or knowledge.
