RED HILL QUARRY — EXPANSION
I refer to the proposed expansion of the Red Hill quarry. (1) Has the department assessed the impact on public safety as a result of the proposed increase in vehicle movements, aggregate, hydrocarbons and explosives on roads in the vicinity of the quarry, particularly users of Toodyay Road? (2) If yes to (1), could the minister please advise — (a) what process was used for the assessment; (b) what was the outcome of the assessment; and (c) whether he will table the department’s findings? (4) Have the assessment results been provided to the Minister for Environment; and, if so, when? (5) If no to (1), why not? Hon SIMON O’BRIEN

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question, which I am sure will be the first of many! (1) It is not clear to which department the honourable member is referring, but I assume she is referring to Main Roads WA, in which case the answer is no. Toodyay Road is a high standard arterial road with adequate capacity to meet expected transport tasks. (2)-(4) Not applicable. (5) Refer to (1).
