I refer to the tearing down of the buildings at the Swan
Valley Nyungah Community that took place on the morning of Tuesday, 18 March
this year.
(1) Given that
the buildings were designed and built in a cultural way on sacred land, who
gave the order to tear down the buildings?
(2) Given that
certificate of title of reserve 43131 states that the land is for the purpose,
use and benefit of Aboriginal inhabitants, why was the destruction of buildings
ordered?
(3) What time did the destruction of buildings at the Swan
Valley Nyungah Community commence?
(4) Was the
Premier aware of the decision to tear down the buildings of the Swan Valley
Nyungah Community?
(5) If yes to
(4), when was the Premier aware?
(6) Was the
Swan Valley Nyungah Community advised of the impending destruction of their
homes?

agreed to the removal of the buildings as part of deliberations on the Korndin
Kulluch plan.
(2) The 23
buildings remained empty for more than 10 years and were uninhabitable due to
vandalism. Extensive consultation with Aboriginal groups, representatives and
the wider community was undertaken in preparing the Korndin Kulluch plan, and
there was overwhelming support for returning the former camp site to its
natural state.
(3) It was at
7.00 am on 18 March 2014.
(4) The
Premier and the Minister for Planning were aware that the structures were to be
removed.
