I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
Western Australia has led the nation when it comes to easing
restrictions and getting people back to work in a COVID-safe way following the
outbreak of COVID-19. This is a direct result of our hard border with the east,
our strong testing and quarantine regime and our solid contact tracing regime.
These protection measures are supported by Western Australia's request
for an international arrivals cap and tougher measures to limit further
arrivals from areas such as New South Wales and Victoria, which present a
heightened risk.
Throughout the pandemic we have strengthened the state's
supplies of critical health resources, including the procurement of more
personal protective equipment. It is prudent that we have plans in place for
any potential future outbreaks that could occur in WA. Our authorities continue
to monitor and assess how WA can limit the spread of and react to an isolated outbreak.
This is why we have held back from progressing to phase 5 of the WA road map to
easing restrictions.
We continue to strike the right balance between protecting
the WA community and keeping the economy as open as possible. While other
jurisdictions have introduced or strengthened restrictions recently, we have
been fortunate enough to remain in phase 4. We will continue to follow the
latest health advice when it comes to progressing our WA COVID-19 road map.
Western Australia's strategy is formed on the advice of the State
Emergency Coordinator and the Chief Health Officer, who both report to the
State Disaster Council, which is chaired by the Premier.
