POLICE — REGIONS
162. Mr V.A. CATANIA to the Minister for Police:
I
have a supplementary question. When will the minister relocate much-needed
police resources from Operation Tide to regional communities?

AnswerView source ↗

I am not the Commissioner of
Police; I am the Minister for Police. I take great pride in that role. I will
continue to advocate within government and in the community on behalf of the Western
Australia Police Force, because I think it has done an incredible job throughout
the five years that we have been in office, and particularly during the
COVID-19 pandemic. I will not be telling the commissioner where to put his
officers. I will not tell him where he should apply his efforts or resources. I
will take his advice. What the government does is to ensure that it resources
the police force properly. We encourage a strategy around responding to
policing measures, but we do not tell the police how to do their job. That is
the commissioner's role, and he does it incredibly well.
