QuestionView source ↗

In line with the Government’s policies and the obvious need for stimulation in the Geraldton-Greenough region - (1) Will the minister confirm that the road and rail components of the southern transport corridor will be completed in this term of government? (2) Can the minister advise the House when the tenders for the road and rail components of the southern transport corridor will be called? Hon G.T. GIFFARD

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) On behalf of the minister, I take this opportunity to point out that the member, when in government, promised to build the southern transport corridor but failed to tell the electorate that he had made no provision whatsoever for the $60 million-plus required for the rail component of the project.  We will deliver on Labor’s promise to build the corridor in our first term of government.  We cannot be more specific on the timetable as we are now reconfiguring budgets to cover the failures of the previous Government, which left many such promises unfunded.
