I have been advised that representatives from South Hedland Primary School have been reporting to the Department of Education and Training for the past five years on the appalling condition of the roof and ceiling at the school. Can the minister advise whether it is proposed that repairs or an upgrade to the roof and ceiling is to commence before a serious accident occurs involving staff and students at the school? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The minister provided the following answer on 9 April and I do not believe it has changed - The Pilbara District Education Office has requested a report from the Department of Housing and Works on the structural condition of the roof and ceilings for consideration in the next general restoration program. South Hedland Primary School has been advised to continue to report the need for any repairs to the roof and ceilings directly to the Department of Housing and Works as a fault for priority attention.
