DUTIES AMENDMENT
(ADDITIONAL DUTY FOR FOREIGN PERSONS) BILL 2018 —URBAN DEVELOPMENT
INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA
809. Mr D.T. REDMAN to the Minister for Housing:
I have a supplementary question.
Given the minister capitulated to the glare of the UDIA last week, should the Treasurer be made aware of any other harebrained
promises that the minister has made to the development industry?

I will make it very clear once again
that what I said to the industry was that I am —
Mr D.T. Redman : And the
message you took back—a big blink!
The SPEAKER : Member for
Warren–Blackwood, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr P.C. TINLEY : I will make
it very clear for the member and for the entire chamber that I was very clear
in my explanation of the budget repair that the government had to undertake and
my full-throated support for this particular measure amongst the many others that
we have had to take very hard decisions on around the cabinet table to put this
into some sort of balance, and I said that I supported the tax—I
supported the opportunity —
Mr D.T. Redman : Was modelling
done or not?
Mr P.C. TINLEY : — for
Western Australians to get access to housing before foreign buyers. I thought
that would be something that the Western Australian National Party might
actually support.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!
Mr P.C. TINLEY : Once again,
the myopic approach that the opposition has towards all parts of the Western Australian
community —
Mr D.T. Redman : Clearly, the
Treasurer has not responded.
The SPEAKER : I respond to
you. I call you to order, member for Warren–Blackwood.
Mr D.T. Redman : You went and
asked him whether modelling has been done and he hasn't responded
because you don't know the answer.
Mr P.C. TINLEY : One thing you
will not know, member —
The SPEAKER : Minister! Member
for Warren–Blackwood, I call you to order for the third time.
Mr P.C. TINLEY : Quite
clearly, the member for Warren–Blackwood is demonstrating in opposition
the same sorts of skills he had in government—that is, cloth ears.
Thank you.
