FREMANTLE
PORT — FREIGHT ON RAIL
729. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Minister for
Transport's recent claim that officials from Watco had advised him that
achieving 30 per cent of freight on rail would be world's best
practice.
(1) When did the minister meet Watco
and who was present at the meeting?
(2) Did anyone take minutes of the
meeting; and, if yes, will the minister table them?
(3) Were the
discussions at the meeting about a business-as-usual approach for the Fremantle
port, or was it based on improvements to the port; and, if so, what
improvements?
(4) Was there any
discussion about what would be world's best practice if a comprehensive
intermodal strategy were implemented?
(5) Was there any
discussion about what would be world's best practice if the
commonwealth's $925 million in funding were applied to subsidising rail
transfer rather than building a road freight link to the port?
