On behalf of the Minister for Corrective Services I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
The Department for Corrective Services advises —
(1)–(3)
No. It is intended that the board will visit regional areas. The Youth Justice
Board first met on 10 April 2014. The focus has been on the review of the Young
Offenders Act 1994. The board has been briefed by the president of the Children's
Court, His Honour Judge Denis Reynolds.
(4)–(5)
The Minister for Corrective Services has received a copy of the scoping and
theoretical framework undertaken by the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture
Centre. He has been advised by the Department for Corrective Services that the
Department of Aboriginal Affairs is currently reviewing the work.
In addition to the work of the Youth
Justice Board, the Department of Corrective Services is undertaking a review of
diversion services and programs. The department will consider applications for
programs and services following this review. Tenders will be publicly sought
through the government tender process consistent with the State Supply
Commission Act 1991.
