I refer to the recently released WA Law Reform Commission Discussion Paper on the
Community Protection (Offender Reporting) Act 2004
, and ask -
(1) How many individuals currently on the Western Australian sex offender register, were placed on the register as juveniles?
(2) Please provide a breakdown of the individuals’ from (1), the current ages and the age they were at the time of the offence which resulted in their registration?
(3) How many of the juveniles referred to in (1), were placed on the register as the result of consensual sexual activity between two young people of not more than four years difference in age?
(4) How many of the individuals referred to in (1), were placed on the register as the result of having committed low-level offences such as ‘sexting’?
(5) How many adults with an intellectual disability are currently on the Western Australian sex offender register?

(1) 182
(2) Due to the scope of the question the data would take a significant amount of time and resources to collate. The Commissioner of Police has advised he is not prepared to divert valuable resources away from core policing activities.

However, I can advise that of the 182 registered juveniles, 60 of those have had their registration status 'suspended'.
(4) None.
(5) It is not possible to determine the exact number of adults with an intellectual disability whom are currently on the Western Australian sex offender register as there is no requirement for a person to advise police that they have a disability, however 51 records have an alert to advise police that they may have an intellectual disability.
