Telethon Community Cinemas
98. Mr Basil Zempilas to the Premier:
I refer to the
dislocation of the Telethon Community Cinemas from Burswood after 24 years
because of the impact of the Premier's proposed racetrack at Burswood.
(1) Will the Premier commit to meeting the Telethon
Community Cinemas to discuss options to incorporate it into the Burswood
project?
(2) If not, is this another example of his
government blatantly ignoring the community impacts of its racetrack obsession?

(1)–(2) It is
simply not accurate—in fact, it is very false—to imply that any
conversations between the Burswood Park Board and the Telethon cinema
experience have anything to do with the redevelopment of the entertainment and
sports precinct. The Burswood Park Board manages all community events across
the park, and across the Burswood Peninsula there are a wide range of events
that take place and coexist year-round.
We understand that the Burswood
Park Board is in discussion with the organisers of the summer cinemas about its
schedule and plans for the summer of 2025–26. As has always been the
case, many events occur throughout the Charles Patterson Park each year, and
the next two years will be no different.
