With regard to the companies short-listed in the Forest Products Commissions request for proposals, on behalf of Hon Christine Sharp, I ask - (1) Which companies have signed a long-term contract? (2) Which companies, if any, have not signed a contract? (3) On what date was each contract signed, and what is the duration of each contract? (4) Have any companies withdrawn their proposal or otherwise relinquished their allocation; and, if yes, which company or companies? (5) Have any companies been paid compensation for withdrawing their proposal or otherwise relinquishing the allocation; and, if yes, which company or companies, and how much was the compensation? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Giz Watson and Hon Christine Sharp for some notice of this question. (1)-(3) All eight companies have operated under contracts of six months duration from 1 January 2004, which provide for an extension to 31 December 2013, subject to finalisation of commercial terms. It is not quite a situation of one contract ending and another starting; there is a provision for the first six months of the contract to roll into the full 10-year contract. Those commercial terms have now been determined. To date, three companies - Australian Craftwood and Timbers Pty Ltd, Gosatti Nominees Pty Ltd and Yornup Mill Pty Ltd - have had their long-term contracts executed. All those contracts were executed on 25 June 2004, and all the contracts terminate on 31 December 2013. (4) Yes. Australian Craftwood and Timbers Pty Ltd relinquished its allocation of bole sawlogs but retained its allocation of lower grade sawlogs. (5) No.
