I refer to Mr Ken Eatt, a licensed kangaroo shooter No 25015RS, and ask - (1) Has Mr Eatt had his license to shoot grey kangaroos suspended? (2) If so, why? (3) Have all licensed shooters of grey kangaroos had their licenses suspended? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

AnswerView source ↗

(1)-(2) No. The conditions of Mr Eatt’s licence have been amended. He is able to shoot red kangaroos for the commercial trade and both red and grey kangaroos non-commercially. He may not shoot grey kangaroos for the commercial trade before 1 January 2005. This action has been taken to ensure that the State operates within the Commonwealth Government’s approved commercial quotas. The quota is a requirement of the management plan that must be approved by the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment and Heritage to allow the export of kangaroo products. (3) No. Specific shooters have been provided with individual quotas on the basis of their past performance in the industry and the remainder of quota available to be taken up in 2004.
