DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT - INCREASES IN BUDGET
A number of weeks ago I asked a question about a budget item for the implementation of government policy in the current budget for the Department of Local Government and Regional Development. Has the minister yet identified the reason for the increase in the budget estimate from 2005-06 to 2006-07 of some $1.4 million, or 80 per cent? Hon JON FORD

I thank Hon Ray Halligan for the question. At the time he asked me the question, I was pretty sure I had the answer. However, the budget papers are constructed in a very interesting way, and not in the way I am used to dealing with in the corporate sector. I believe that the line item deals with policy initiatives for Wiluna, but it falls a bit short. There is a component that I do not understand. The question is on notice, and I will get back to the member.
