KARRATHA AND PORT HEDLAND

Minister for Housing:
I refer to the
article titled, ''Inquiry on Pilbara Housing'' published in The West
Australian on Tuesday, 28 July 2015.
(1) How many Government Regional Officers'
Housing houses were in Karratha and
Port Hedland at the start of 2013, 2014 and 2015?
(2) How many GROH units are in Pelago East
and Osprey Village now?
(3) How many GROH houses in Karratha and
Port Hedland are occupied by government workers?
(4) How many GROH units in Karratha and Port
Hedland are occupied by government workers?
(5) How many government departments
currently own or are leasing properties in Pelago East and/or Osprey Village?
(6) With regard to (4), which departments
use those units and how many do they each use?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) In Karratha in 2013 there were 668; in
2014 there were 689; and in 2015 there were 664. In Hedland in 2013 there were
471; in 2014 there were 418; and in 2015 there were 427.
(2) The Housing Authority owns 26 GROH
apartments in Pelago East. There are no GROH dwellings in Osprey Village.
(3)–(4) In Karratha 567 dwellings
are occupied and in Hedland 357 are occupied. This includes houses, apartments,
units and duplexes.
(5) The Housing Authority leases its 26
apartments in Pelago East to eight different GROH client agencies. The Housing
Authority does not lease any apartments to GROH client agencies in Osprey
Village.
(6) Each government agency and the number of
apartments occupied in Karratha are as follows: Building Management and Works
from the Department of Finance occupies one, the Department of Corrective
Services occupies four, the Department of Education occupies 39, the Department
of Fisheries occupies one, the Housing Authority occupies three, the Department
for Child Protection occupies four, the Pilbara Development Commission occupies
two, the Pilbara Institute occupies one and the Water Corporation occupies
five.
Each government agency and the number of apartments occupied in Hedland
are as follows: the Department of Corrective Services occupies four, the
Department of Education occupies 31, the Housing Authority occupies four, the
Pilbara Institute occupies two and the Water Corporation occupies one.
