I refer
to the Office of the Inspector of Custodial Services report Behaviour
Management Practices at Banksia Hill Detention Centre tabled 17 July 2017, and ask: (a) why
is the Department of Corrective Services excluding lockdown records for people in observation/multipurpose
cells in Harding Unit from standard reporting about lockdown hours; and (b) is the Minister concerned that there are not accurate records reflecting additional confinement and if so, what actions has the Minister taken to respond to these concerns?

The Department of Justice advises:
(a) Lock down records for all individual detainees, in all areas of the Intensive Support Unit (formerly Harding Unit) including observation/multipurpose cells, are included in reporting. New reporting procedures came into effect from 10 May 2017 to address any previously identified shortfalls following the Inspector of Custodial Services’ report into Behaviour management practices at Banksia Hill Detention Centre. (b) As above
