On behalf of the Minister for Education and Training, I provide the following response - (1) Two pieces of research were independently conducted in 2005-06 by the Children’s Physical Activity Coalition and the University of Western Australia’s active schools project. The child and adolescent physical activity and nutrition survey was conducted in 2003. (2) The Children’s Physical Activity Coalition and the University of Western Australia’s active schools project conducted the survey. In 2005, the Department of Education and Training surveyed all public secondary schools in Western Australia about the amount of time students spent participating in health and physical education as a part of the secondary school leavers strategy. CAPANS was conducted by the Premier’s Physical Activity Taskforce. (3) Permission would need to be obtained before data gathered in the CPAC project and the active schools project could be released. The CAPANS report is available on the Internet. (4) At the end of 2007, all schools will need to report on their compliance with the mandatory two hours of physical activity.
