ADHD - STANDARD MODEL OF ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS
A key recommendation of the Education and Health Standing Committee’s investigation into attention deficit hyperactivity disorder was for the development of a standard model of assessment and diagnosis. (1) Will the minister name the people developing the model? (2) What is the predicted cost of developing such a model? This model includes the development of a Western Australian clinical guideline for ADHD diagnosis and treatment, and two specialist multidisciplinary clinics for ADHD. The ministerial implementation committee on mental health and development disability is, with the Western Australian Office of Mental Health, developing both the Western Australian guideline and the business case for the specialist clinics. The area director of the South Metropolitan Mental Health Service chairs the ministerial implementation committee for ADHD. The committee includes members representing the Bentley Family Clinic ADHD team, the Western Australian Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, the State Child Development Centre, the office of the Chief Pharmacist, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Pharmaceutical Council of Western Australia, the professor of paediatrics at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, senior managers at the Department of Education and Training, the Learning and Attentional Disorders Society of Western Australia, the Drug Free Attention Deficit Support Group and the Office of Mental Health.
