If the decision is made to deregulate the egg marketing industry, will the minister be fighting hard to ensure egg producers receive adequate compensation for their investment in bird licensing fees, which in some cases have been considerable? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Government has announced it has agreed in principle to deregulate the egg industry no later than 1 July 2007. As I have previously indicated, there are a number of important matters still to be determined by government. The deliberation on these matters is dependent on advice that is still to be received. Clearly those matters under consideration include the matter raised by Hon Paddy Embry.
