(1) How many apprentices are currently employed?
(2) How many trainees are currently employed?
(3) Are there currently any plans to increase the number of apprenticeships and traineeships immediately?
(4) If yes to (3), what are the proposed increases?
(5) What funds have been allocated in 2009-10 to recruit more participants for apprenticeships and traineeships?
(6) If no funds have been allocated, why not?

(6) The Department does not have significant numbers of employees with trade qualifications and therefore has very limited ability to employ apprentices. The Department is in the process of completing a Workforce Planning project and trainees will be considered in that process.
