SWAN RIVER PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE — FABRICATION
487. Mr F.M. LOGAN to the
Minister for Transport:
Mr Speaker —
Mr
N.W. Morton : The shadow Minister for Transport!
Mr
F.M. LOGAN : I refer to the recent announcement of the successful tenderers
for the design and construction of the $54 million bridge link from East Perth
to the new stadium.
(1) Given that
the bridge has been designed by an Italian company and will be constructed by a
South Australian company, will the minister insist that it is fabricated in WA?
(2) Will the
minister ensure that all materials for this bridge will be sourced from Western
Australia and Western Australian companies?

I am not sure whether
congratulations are in order and whether the member for Cockburn is now the
shadow Minister for Transport. I have been watching all the members opposite
line up to ask questions of me all this week. I do not know whether it is part
of the application process.
(1)–(2) I
think Western Australia will have every right to be very proud of the
pedestrian bridge when it is constructed. It will be completed by late 2016.
Just to remind members, this bridge will facilitate the movement of 14 000
people to and from the stadium from the CBD. As the Premier said, it bookends
this city perfectly with Kings Park at one end and what will become a tremendous
Burswood Peninsula at the other end. We have announced the contract. The
details of that contract have now been played out as to exactly what local
content will be applied across the work itself and the supply of materials
involved. I will not give any specific details at this point because I have
nothing to provide.
