FREMANTLE
PORT — PRIVATISATION
751. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Treasurer:
I have a supplementary question. Why are the Treasurer and
the Premier saying diametrically different things in relation to this; and,
what has changed since the Treasurer advised the IPA conference two weeks ago
of a completion date of July next year?

AnswerView source ↗

We indicated that the plan for the lease would be during this
term of government, targeting July. Nothing has changed. The problem is that
the Leader of the Opposition makes a statement and then he asks a question of
me and the Premier, but when we give him an answer, he does not want it so he
denies it. The problem lies with the other side. We made a statement and we put
a process in place. The Leader of the Opposition might not like it. He asks
questions about it and the Premier and I give the same answer, but he denies
it. The problem lies with the Leader of the Opposition, the person who has no
inkling of leadership on a single issue. He is cowering from the future and
from the needs of the state. He can go out and spout a bunch of nonsense; all
it does is show the people the type of leader he is.
