Stephen Dawson who is away on urgent parliamentary business.
I refer to health services at Newman
Hospital.
(1) How many women from Newman sought medical
assistance for pregnancies in 2014–15 and 2015 to date?
(2) How many resident midwives
provide prenatal and postnatal services to women in Newman?
(3) If there are no midwives in
Newman, what is the reason for this?
(4) Which
positions are currently vacant at Newman Hospital and what is the reason for

(1) Between 1
June 2014 and 30 June 2015, 79 women attended for pregnancy-related care.
Between 1 July 2015 and 21 June 2016, when the question was originally
submitted, 74 women attended for pregnancy‑related care.
(2) Nil.
(3) The WA Health
clinical services framework 2014–15 classifies Newman Hospital as a level
1 facility for maternity and newborn services. Maternity and newborn services
are classified on a scale of level 1 to level 6, with level 6 being the highest
in complexity of care and service provision. Level 1 facilities do not
undertake planned births.
(4) There are no midwifery positions
allocated to Newman Hospital.
