I refer to question on notice No. 714 of Wednesday, May 22 2002 answers provided and the Mt Pleasant Gold Mine environmental licence -
(1) Can the Minister explain why the Department of Environmental Protection needed to have the licence condition referred to in question (1) specifically pH in the range 6.0 to 9.0, Total dissolved solids shall not show an increasing trend in concentration for the duration of this licence and cyanide (weak acid dissociable) less than 0.5 mg/litre to provide an assurance that tailings do not seep into the surrounding groundwater given that the groundwater is saline/hypersaline?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
