RENEWABLE ENERGY
This is an answerable question! I refer to the growing demand for renewable energy, and ask - (1) How does the government certify the purchase of NaturalPower? (2) Does the government apply the same standards to the desalination plant? (3) How does the volume of energy consumed by the desalination plant compare with the volume of energy used by household consumers? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Paul Llewellyn for his eminently answerable question! I am advised in the following terms - (1) The purchase of NaturalPower is certified through a rigorous auditing process undertaken by the administrator of the national GreenPower scheme. (2) The desalination plant purchases renewable energy accredited by the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator. Hon Paul Llewellyn : Sneaky, sneaky! You got around it again! Hon KIM CHANCE : It is a straightforward answer! The answer continues - (3) Energy use for the desalination plant is approximately four per cent of state household electricity consumption, based on 2004-05 residential consumption figures.
